There’s nothing quite like a warm berry cobbler to bring a smile to the table. This classic dessert combines juicy, slightly tart fruit with a buttery, biscuit-topped crust that turns golden brown as it bakes. Whether you’re looking for a weeknight treat or a crowd-pleasing dessert for a weekend gathering, this cobbler lets the natural sweetness of fresh or frozen berries shine while delivering a comforting, home-baked finish.

  • Total Time: 60
  • Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

6 cups Mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, sliced strawberries)

½ cup Granulated sugar

1 tbsp Lemon juice

2 tbsp Cornstarch

1 cup All-purpose flour

1 ½ tsp Baking powder

¼ tsp Salt

¼ cup Unsalted butter, cold and cubed

½ cup Milk (whole or 2%)

1 tsp Pure vanilla extract

Optional: ¼ tsp Cinnamon or nutmeg

Instructions

1. Prep: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish.

2. Filling: In a bowl, gently toss berries with sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Transfer to the baking dish.

3. Topping: Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and spices. Cut in cold butter until coarse crumbs form. Stir in milk and vanilla until a sticky dough forms.

4. Assemble: Drop spoonfuls of dough over the berry filling. It’s okay if some berries show through.

5. Bake: Bake for 35-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges. Rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Pro-Tips:

• Use cold butter and handle the dough minimally to ensure a tender, biscuit-like topping rather than a tough crust.

• If using frozen berries, do not thaw them first; keep them frozen to prevent a watery filling.

• Let the cobbler rest for at least 10 minutes after baking so the berry juices have time to thicken.

Variations:

• Tropical: Swap half the berries for diced mango or pineapple and add a pinch of ground ginger.

• Crunch: Sprinkle coarse sugar or chopped nuts over the dough before baking for added texture.

• Spiced: Add a pinch of cardamom to the berry mixture for an aromatic, sophisticated flavor.
