These Heart-Shaped Fruit Skewers are a healthy, adorable treat perfect for Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s brunch, or just a fun snack for kids. By using a simple cookie cutter, fresh watermelon and strawberries are transformed into festive ‘Cupid’s Arrows.’ They are naturally sweet, colorful, and take less than 20 minutes to assemble. Serve them on their own or with a side of yogurt dip!

  • Total Time: 20
  • Yield: 12 skewers

Ingredients

— The Fruit —

½ small seedless watermelon

1 lb (450g) fresh strawberries (large size works best)

1 cup purple or green grapes (seedless)

— The Equipment —

10–12 bamboo skewers (6-inch or 10-inch)

Small heart-shaped cookie cutter (approx. 1.5 to 2 inches wide)

— Optional Yogurt Dip —

1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt

1 tablespoon honey

1 teaspoon rainbow sprinkles (for garnish)

Instructions

1. **Prep Watermelon:** Slice the seedless watermelon into rounds or planks that are about ¾-inch thick. Lay them flat on a cutting board.

2. **Cut Hearts:** Using your heart-shaped cookie cutter, press firmly into the watermelon slices to punch out as many hearts as possible. Set the hearts aside and save the scraps for smoothies.

3. **Prep Strawberries:** Wash the strawberries and pat them dry. Remove the leafy green stems (hull them). Use a paring knife to cut a small ‘V’ notch into the top of each strawberry to accentuate the natural heart shape. If the strawberries are very large, you can slice them in half lengthwise first.

4. **Assemble:** Thread the fruit onto the bamboo skewers. A popular pattern is: one grape (to anchor the bottom), followed by a strawberry heart, and finished with a watermelon heart at the top. You can alternate the pattern however you like!

5. **Make Dip (Optional):** In a small bowl, whisk together the vanilla Greek yogurt and honey. Top with colorful sprinkles.

6. **Serve:** Arrange the skewers on a platter and serve immediately. They are best enjoyed fresh and cold.

Notes

Cookie Cutters: A metal cookie cutter works best for cutting through crisp watermelon cleanly. A 1.5-inch cutter is the ideal size for snack skewers.

Fruit Variations: You can also use cantaloupe, honeydew melon, or thick slices of pineapple to add different colors and flavors to your bouquet.

Kid-Friendly: If making these for very young children, blunt the sharp pointed end of the skewer or use paper lollipop sticks instead of bamboo skewers for safety.

Storage: These can be assembled up to 4 hours in advance. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
