This Easy Overnight Oats recipe is the ultimate make-ahead healthy breakfast. Old-fashioned rolled oats are soaked in a creamy blend of milk, Greek yogurt, and chia seeds, creating a thick, delicious, pudding-like texture while you sleep. It is high in protein, fiber, and fully customizable with your favorite toppings.

  • Total Time: 5
  • Yield: 1 jar

Ingredients

— The Base —

½ cup Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats (do not use quick oats or steel-cut)

½ cup Milk (dairy, almond, oat, or soy milk)

¼ cup Greek Yogurt (plain or vanilla; adds creaminess and protein)

1 tablespoon Chia Seeds (essential for thickening)

1 tablespoon Maple Syrup or Honey (adjust to taste)

½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Pinch of salt

— Topping Ideas (Add before serving) —

Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

Sliced banana

Nut butter (peanut, almond, or cashew)

Granola or chopped nuts for crunch

Dash of cinnamon

Instructions

1. **Combine:** In a Mason jar, glass container, or bowl, add the rolled oats, milk, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt.

2. **Mix:** Stir vigorously with a spoon to ensure the chia seeds are evenly distributed and don’t clump at the bottom. (Alternatively, put the lid on the jar and shake it well).

3. **Soak:** Seal the container with a lid or plastic wrap. Place in the refrigerator for at least **4 hours**, but preferably **overnight (8 hours)**. This allows the oats to soften and the chia seeds to gel, thickening the mixture.

4. **Serve:** The next morning, uncover and give the oats a good stir. Check the consistency; if you prefer it thinner, add a splash more milk.

5. **Top:** Add your favorite toppings—fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, or a drizzle of nut butter—and enjoy cold straight from the fridge.

Notes

Oat Type Matters: You must use **Rolled Oats (Old Fashioned)**. Quick oats will turn into mush/soup, and steel-cut oats will remain too chewy and hard.

The Chia Seeds: These are the secret ingredient. They absorb liquid and create the gel-like pudding texture. If you skip them, reduce the milk slightly or the oats will be runny.

Warm Option: While traditionally eaten cold, you can microwave the jar for 45–60 seconds if you prefer a warm breakfast.

Meal Prep: These stay fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can prep a jar for every day of the work week on Sunday night.
