Bring the steakhouse experience home with this Restaurant Succulent Lobster Tail recipe. The secret lies in the ‘butterflying’ technique, which lifts the meat above the shell for a stunning presentation, and a rich garlic-paprika butter that seeps into the meat as it broils. It’s an elegant, impressive dinner that is surprisingly easy to make in under 20 minutes.

  • Total Time: 25
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

— The Lobster —

4 lobster tails (about 4-6 oz each), thawed if frozen

— The Garlic Butter —

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon garlic, finely minced

1 teaspoon paprika (for color and subtle smoky flavor)

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

— Serving —

Lemon wedges

Additional melted butter for dipping

Instructions

1. **Preheat:** Set your oven to Broil (High). Place the oven rack in the upper-middle position (about 6 inches from the heating element).

2. **Butterfly the Tails:** Using sharp kitchen shears, cut lengthwise down the center of the top shell, stopping just before the tail fan. **Do not cut through the bottom shell.**

3. **Lift the Meat:** Gently pry the shell open with your thumbs. Lift the lobster meat up and out of the shell, keeping it attached at the base of the tail. Let the meat rest on top of the shell (this is the classic restaurant presentation).

4. **Make the Sauce:** In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, minced garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.

5. **Season:** Place the prepared lobster tails on a baking sheet. Brush the lobster meat generously with the garlic butter mixture, ensuring every crevice is coated.

6. **Broil:** Place the baking sheet in the oven and broil for 8–10 minutes. The cooking time will vary slightly based on the size of the tails. The lobster is done when the meat is opaque and white (no longer translucent) and the shell is bright red.

7. **Serve:** Remove from the oven. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve immediately with lemon wedges and extra melted butter on the side.

Notes

Thawing Tip: If using frozen lobster tails, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight. For a quick thaw, seal them in a plastic bag and submerge in cold water for 30–60 minutes.

Don’t Overcook: Lobster can become rubbery if overcooked. Watch it closely under the broiler; as soon as the meat turns white and firm, pull it out.

Thermometer Check: If you have an instant-read thermometer, the internal temperature of the thickest part of the tail should read 140°F (60°C).

Variations: For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or Cajun seasoning to the butter mixture.
