There’s nothing quite like a perfectly balanced Strawberry Margarita. This iconic cocktail combines the sweetness of ripe strawberries with the bright acidity of lime and the smooth warmth of tequila, creating a drink that’s both incredibly refreshing and delightfully sophisticated. Forget cloyingly sweet mixes; this recipe focuses on fresh, real ingredients for a vibrant, restaurant-quality drink you can make at home.

  • Total Time: 5
  • Yield: 1 cocktail

Ingredients

1 cup (150g) Fresh strawberries, hulled

2 oz (60ml) Tequila (Blanco or Reposado)

1 oz (30ml) Orange liqueur (Cointreau, Triple Sec, or Grand Marnier)

1 oz (30ml) Fresh lime juice

½ oz (15ml) Simple syrup

Ice (as needed)

Salt (for rim)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Glass: Moisten the rim of your chilled rocks glass with a lime wedge and dip it into a plate of salt. Set aside.

2. Muddle: In the bottom of a cocktail shaker, add the hulled fresh strawberries and the simple syrup. Use a muddler to firmly press and twist until well-crushed and juicy.

3. Add Liquids: Pour the tequila, orange liqueur, and fresh lime juice over the muddled strawberries.

4. Shake: Fill the shaker with ice, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the outside is very cold and frosty.

5. Strain and Serve: Fill your prepared salt-rimmed glass with fresh ice. Using a strainer, pour the mixture into the glass, pressing on the solids to extract all the liquid.

6. Garnish: Add a fresh strawberry on the rim or drop it into the drink, and include a thin lime wheel.

Notes

Pro-Tips:

• Chill your serving glass in the freezer for at least 15 minutes before serving.

• Aim to pulverize strawberries into a coarse puree; avoid over-muddling to prevent bitter notes from seeds.

• Taste before shaking; if strawberries are very sweet, use less syrup.

• For a smoky twist, replace ½ oz of tequila with mezcal.

Variations:

• Frozen: Blend all ingredients with 1 cup of ice until smooth.

• Virgin: Omit alcohol, increase lime juice by ¼ oz and simple syrup by ¼ oz.

• Herb Infused: Muddle 2-3 basil or mint leaves with the strawberries.
